BOWIE BRIEFS: Softball begins 2015 practices
This past Friday marked the opening of softball practices in accordance with University Interscholastic League bylaws.
Bowie softball will open with a pair of scrimmages.
The Lady Rabbits will play at Decatur on Feb. 3 and then home for Krum on Feb. 9.
Bowie will open the regular season on Feb. 19 at the Brock Tournament. The team will also play in the Stephenville Tournament the following weekend from Feb. 26-28.
Bowie’s own tournament is set for March 5-7.
District 3A-9 play opens on March 10 as Bowie takes on Montague County rival Nocona here at home.
The Lady Rabbits and Lady Indians will play once again on April 3 at Nocona.
The regular season will conclude on April 24 at Holliday.
The Lady Rabbits will be under the direction of first-year head coach Brant Farris.
Baseball fires up on Feb. 26
The first day for organized baseball practices will be next Friday, Jan. 30, according to University Interscholastic League bylaws.
Bowie baseball will have a hit-a-thon at noon on Saturday, Jan. 31.
The team will have scrimmages on Feb. 9 home versus Millsap, Feb. 14 at Whitesboro, Feb. 16 home versus Pilot Point and then Feb. 21 at Iowa Park with Bridgeport.
The regular season begins with the NTX Tournament of Champions on Feb. 26.
The Bowie Tournament is scheduled for March 5-7 and the Walker Stallcup Tournament March 12-14.
District 3A-9 play will begin on March 17 at Jacksboro.
Bowie and Nocona will play on April 3 in Nocona and again on April 28 here in town. The April 28 game between the Jackrabbits and Indians will be Bowie’s Senior Night.
The final game of the regular season is May 1 at Boyd.
Ryan Rogers serves as Bowie’s head coach.
JV girls blast Boyd
The Bowie High School junior varsity girls’ team blasted Boyd, outscoring the Lady Jackets 23-5 en route to a 73-18 victory on Tuesday at home.
River Romine netted 17 points to lead the Lady Rabbits. Madison Hill contributed 16 points, Carli Shields 15 and Aubrey Gill 10.
The JV Maroon boys had no trouble beating Boyd as well, 55-35, as Trace Hardee put in 18.

A positive culture can be tough to install but will reap dividends if done correctly.
Trinadee Imotichey is trying to do just that with her Forestburg Lady Longhorns.
Imotichey, an assistant coach on the 2025 Forestburg volleyball team, was moved into the head coaching position. Last year’s coach, Cori Hayes, took over as football head coach.
Imotichey, in her 2nd year in Forestburg, said she learned a lot from Hayes and is ready to take over.

Bowie’s summer softball league team overcame a 6-1 deficit with a six-run third inning for a 7-6 win over Bridgeport in its season opener July 6.
The league consists of teams from Bowie, Nocona, Lindsay, Bridgeport, and Alvord and will last three weeks. Bowie will host games each week.
Bowie pitcher Hazel Trahern gave up two singles and a groundout to put the Sissies on the board in the first. It would be the only hits she gave up in the game. Two groundouts and a strikeout got the Lady Rabbits out of the jam.
Bowie got the run back in the bottom of the first with Andee Jo Miller opening the frame with a walk and a stolen base. She then scored on Kynlee Baker’s groundout to tie the game at one.

Sage Keck, an 8th grader at Montague, lives by this mantra. No ifs, ands and buts about it.
She’s been running since fourth grade PE classes where she would run a mile every week. After discovering she could outrun the other students, she began to enjoy it and continued doing it.
Her success continued, as she finished 2nd overall against more than 200 runners at the Old Saint Jo 5K July 4. In last weekend’s Texas Junior Olympics, she reached the pinnacle of her career so far by qualifying for the United States of America Track and Field (USATF) National Junior Olympics in Norwalk, Calif. in three events.
