TEXAS HIGH SCHOOL BASKETBALL POLLING: Bowie girls remain 13th overall
The Bowie High School girls’ basketball team won District 3A-9 last week, completing the regular season with a 27-5 mark and 14-0 in district action.
Despite such a strong season, Bowie’s girls couldn’t make up any ground in polling – remaining 13th in the latest Texas Association of Basketball Coaches 3A poll.
Bowie played Whitesboro Monday in the Bi-District 3A-II game at Sanger High School.
Sunnyvale holds the top spot at 30-2, and Shallowater is second at 26-1.
Also in polling, Bellevue moved to 24-7 and won District 1A-21 boys’ championship with a convincing 80-60 victory over Slidell this past Friday.
With the win, the Eagles moved from 18th to 17th spot in the TABC 1A boys’ poll.
The Eagles were unblemished at 13-0 heading into Tuesday’s regular-season finale against Gold-Burg.
Texline is the leader in 1A boys, compiling a 28-2 record, with Laneville second at 22-3. Throckmorton is sixth, at 17-2.
Slidell’s girls, who beat Forestburg 41-29 on Saturday for the District 1A-21 title, are 10th in the Texas Girls Coaches Association 1A poll. Slidell is 19th in the TABC 1A girls poll, with a 26-4 record. Read more in the mid-week Bowie News.

McLennan to coach Saint Jo boys
New Saint Jo Boy’s Basketball Coach Terry McLennan said the school’s family atmosphere is what prompted him to join the Panther family.
“This is an opportunity to be an important program but also part of a great community,” McLennan said. “I’ve been looking to get back to a small town environment like the one I grew up in and played ball and this should do that.”
McLennan played basketball in Hubbard outside of Waco. McLennan comes to town after being the assistant girl’s basketball coach in Grand Prairie.
McLennan contends he’s a defensive style of coach but says his team will focus on intensity.

Botard new BHS girls BB coach
After some coaching time in East Texas, Bret Botard will be the new girl’s basketball coach at Bowie.
Botard said it’s a chance to work with Bowie Athletic Director Tyler Price once again. Price was Botard’s assistant when he coached at Nocona.
“I wanted to get back into the area,” Botard said. “It’s a good community.”
Botard graduated high school in 1995 from Del Valle High School, outside Austin, and went to Texas Tech. He started his coaching career in Lubbock followed by returning to his alma mater where he was an assistant for his high school coach.
