Bowie volleyball holds on against City View
The Bowie Lady Rabbits picked up their second straight district win at home on Tuesday night against City View.
The Lady Rabbits won 3-1, having to battle hard in the final two sets after taking a lead halfway through the match.
Bowie was coming off its first win in several games with its straight sets win against Jacksboro. The team wanted to try and keep it going against a program it is used to beating in volleyball.
The Lady Mustangs came in with a 1-2 district record, with a win against Vernon but losses against Holliday and Iowa Park. The team had a lot of height and length all over the court as well.
The first set was pretty competitive throughout. Bowie did not trail throughout, but only a four point lead when it led 17-13 was the biggest the Lady Rabbits had throughout the set until the end.
Leading 21-19, Bowie won four of the last five points to close out the set strong with a win 25-20 to take a 1-0 lead.
The second set was a runaway train. The Lady Rabbits went from trailing 8-7 to leading 12-8, 15-10 and 19-11. Bowie won by double-digits 25-14 to take a 2-0 lead and commanding confidence towards ending the match.
The second set proved to be a little too easy for the Lady Rabbits as the team took too long to find their footing in set three. Also, City View had everything working.
Borderline looking shots near out of bounds continuously were just inside the line. Every hustle point was saved and eventually scored for the Lady Mustangs.
Bowie found itself in the biggest deficit of the match down 16-6 as Coach Ashley Sanders had to call two timeouts before the Lady Rabbits snapped out of it.
Bowie won six of the next eight points to make the lead a bit manageable initially down 18-12. Eventually, the Lady Rabbits clawed it to within three points down 21-18.
Unfortunately, Bowie could not complete the comeback. City View closed the set strong, winning four of the next five points to win set three 25-19 and keep the match alive.
The Lady Rabbits needed to not have any flat moments in set four or the momentum from a City View team with some hope might be too much to overcome.
The fourth set proved to be the most competitive of the match from start to the compelling finish.
Bowie initially got up 9-6 early in the set, but the Lady Mustangs rallied to take their first lead of the set 13-12.
For the rest of the set it was point-to-point as neither team was able to get more than a one-point lead. Near the end it was City View that had a 23-22 lead and needed to close with its narrow lead providing the opportunity to win the set.
Instead it was the Lady Rabbits who clutched out the end of the set, winning four of the next five points to win the set 26-24 and the match 3-1.
