Bowie loses in last minute at Breckenridge

Published

on

The Bowie Jackrabbits lost a heartbreaker on the road Friday night at Breckenridge.
The Buckaroos won 28-21 as the Jackrabbits attempt in the final minute to either tie or take the lead fell short inside Breckenridge’s red zone.
Bowie came into the game with a bit of hope of salvaging a playoff spot if things went a specific way.
Without getting into the minutia of hoping certain teams lost and what margin of victory would have been needed, the main idea was the Jackrabbits needed to win their final two games.
The Bucks got on the board first with a short run that capped off a drive in the first quarter’s only score.
In the second, Breckenridge went up two scores when another drive ended with an eight-yard run.
Down 14-0, Bowie’s offense put multiple drives together right before halftime.
Largely predicated on marching the ball down the field running the football for short to medium gains that kept the chains moving, two short touchdown runs from Justin Clark saw the Jackrabbits tie the score at 14-14.
In the third quarter, the Bucks finished off their first drive with a seven-yard touchdown run to go back up.
Bowie immediately came back to tie the score 21-21 as Jax Johnston took the kickoff back 85 yards for a touchdown.
Breckenridge was able to break the tie before the fourth quarter when a drive ended with a short plunge into the end zone, the Bucks up 28-21.
The Jackrabbits had a shot near the end of the game. Coach Tyler Price said he would have gone for the win and attempted a two-point conversion if his team would have scored as time was winding down.
With the ball on the one-yard line, a false start moved Bowie back which made the team pass the ball which would result in a game sealing interception from the Bucks.
Breckenridge won 28-21.
Justin Clark led the Jackrabbits with 142 yards rushing and he scored two touchdowns. This helped Bowie finish with more than 200 yards rushing for the seventh time this season.
Unfortunately, despite being the closest game of the season and one the Jackrabbits had a chance to win, the loss eliminates them from playoff contention heading into the final week of the season.
