Montague County athletes competed at the state cross country meet on Friday and Saturday at Round Rock.
Gold-Burg’s Isaac Renteria came back with some hardware, finishing ninth in the boy’s 1A race.
With it being Renteria’s third trip to the state meet, his goal this year was to break through and get on the stand as he ran 17:09.
He was joined for the first time by Ollie Gaston who was the first girl Gold-Burg runner to make it to the state meet. She finished 86th with a time of 14:07.
The Saint Jo Lady Panthers finished ninth overall as a team. With three of the five girls coming straight from playing a five-set playoff volleyball match the night before, it was a tough turnaround they battled through.
Abby Carter led the team by finishing 18th overall with a time of 12:58. Her teammates included Tatum Morman (58th), Taylor Patrick (84th), Kaycee Clark (98th) and Aubrey Morman (107th).
From Prairie Valley, Linzie Priddy finished 64th with a time of 13:48 in the girls 1A race. It was her second time at the state meet after missing last year.
Josh Stout competed in the boy’s 1A race and finished 90th with a time of 19:43 in his first time at state.
The Nocona Lady Indians’ team was celebrating just getting back to state for the second straight year. With it being the same group that did it the previous year for the first time in school history and the last race for the team as a whole, with two graduating seniors running their final race, the race itself was gravy.
The Lady Indians finished 15th overall running in the 2A girl’s race. Bayler Smith led the team with a 31st finish with a time of 12:45.
The team’s top five runners included Jayce Rose (104th), Melissa Segura (105th), Jolie Rose (128th) and Reagan Phipps (131st).
The Nocona boys’ team also was represented by Claudio Segura. Unfortunately for Segura, he suffered a sprained ankle at the beginning of the chaotic start of the race and could not finish.
Still, he was the second Nocona boy to make it to the state meet in the last two years.
