Lady Rabbits fall to Henrietta to open district play

Published

Shortstop Beau Combs races a runner to second base and beats her to it for a third out.

The Bowie Lady Rabbits started district on Tuesday by hosting Henrietta and it did not go well.
The Lady Cats beat the Lady Rabbits by run-rule 13-0 after five innings of play.
Bowie came into the game in a bit of a rough patch after some crucial injuries the previous week.
The Lady Rabbits were coming into the game after a tough tournament at Iowa Park.
Henrietta started fast, scoring six runs in the top of the first inning before Bowie had gotten to bat. The Lady Cats hit five singles, one triple, while drawing a walk and taking advantage of a fielding error.
The Lady Rabbit defense got in trouble in the second inning, with the bases loaded and no outs. A ground out allowed one run to score, but pitcher Kaylie Kinney struck out the next batter and induced a groundout at first base to get out of any more trouble.
Kinney followed up that play in the third inning by fielding two balls for outs and forcing a fly out to centerfield as Bowie allowed no base runners for the first time in the game.
Henrietta got two runs in the fourth inning. After a fielding error and a walk put two runners on base, a triple brought them home to put the Lady Cats up 9-0.
In the fifth inning, Henrietta loaded the bases with a single and two fielding errors.
A single drove in all three runners and a later single drove in one more run.
Bowie batters had failed to get on base all game and it did not change in the fifth inning. The game ended 13-0 by run-rule.
