Bowie tennis falls to Holliday
The Bowie Jackrabbit tennis team got a preview for a future district match when they hosted Holliday for a pre-district match on Monday.
The Eagles won the close match 11-8, getting some manner of revenge for their loss to the Jackrabbits last year during district play.
Bowie did not have a great day for its doubles teams, with only its top two teams earning wins early on.
First position girls doubles team Heidi Siebert and Laney Enlow continued their preseason dominance, winning defiantly 8-4 to improve their overall record to 7-0 this early in the season.
On the boy’s side, first position doubles team Rush Williams and Brooks Gray dominated in their match, winning 8-3.
Unfortunately, the Jackrabbits were trailing 5-2 heading into singles matches, but Bowie would rally.
Siebert and Williams would both win their matches in first position. Williams won 8-4 and Siebert 8-5. This improved Siebert’s record to 7-0 in singles matches this pre-season.
Enlow kept her day undeafeated winning a close match in the third position girl’s singles.
She won the tie breaker 9-7 to win the overall match 9-8.
Alyssa Airington in the fourth position girl’s singles 8-3. Gentry Gray won in the sixth position girl’s singles 8-5. Bryson Mills also won in the sixth position in boy’s singles with the score being 8-4.
Unfortunately, it was not enough for Bowie to come back after digging the hole. Holliday only needed to win four of the 12 singles matches to win overall and the Eagles ended up winning five of them to win 11-8.
