HIGH SCHOOL BASEBALL: Cantwell, bats enough for Bowie

Cooper Cantwell got the start for the Bowie Jackrabbits against Jacksboro Friday night.
He dazzled again, allowing only one run and one hit – both in the seventh inning – while striking out 10 and walking two, leading Bowie to a 5-1 win over the Tigers.
“Cooper was efficient on the mound,” said head coach Ryan Rogers. “He had command of the game all night.”
Bowie, ranked as high as sixth in Conference 3A in statewide polls, improved to 18-1-2, 8-0 in District 3A-9.
Cantwell, who threw strikes nearly 66 percent of the time in the win, got plenty of run support as well.
The Jackrabbits opened scoring in the bottom of the second inning as Dylan Slade tagged up and tapped home plate after a Trace Hardee RBI flyout. Slade opened the inning with a single to center field.
Kamry Weber later provided an RBI single to score Carter Shackelford, who drew a walk.
Bowie added three more runs in the bottom of the fourth, which was more than enough offense on this night. Read more, and see the complete box score, in the mid-week Bowie News.
