OUTDOORS: Use app for turkey harvests

Published

on

Eastern turkey hunting in Texas is underway and runs through May 14.
Hunters are reminded all eastern turkeys must be reported to the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department within 24 hours of harvest.
A list of check stations may be found online at: tpwd.texas.gov/huntwild/hunt/season/stations.
Hunters have the option of reporting harvests at physical check stations or tpwd.texas.gov/turkey or on the new My Texas Hunt mobile application.
The app is now available for download for Android devices at Google Play and for iOS devices at the Apple App Store.
Hunters who use the electronic reporting option will be issued a confirmation number upon completion of registration. Hunters must still tag birds.
This will be the final hunting season for physical check stations. The TPWD is transitioning to electronic reporting only for the upcoming 2016 season.
The new app may also be used as a tool for voluntary reporting and tracking harvests of other game species. The app features a harvest history, including the time, date and location of every successful hunt.
TPWD turkey program leader Jason Hardin said turkey populations are growing north of United States Highway 82 from Cooke and Bowie County.
