Volunteers needed for phase two playground build

Phase two of the Nocona Playground Project gets underway this week with the build days for the larger kids area at the new Chief Peta’s Playground.
The build will be April 3-7. Sarah Renfro, project coordinator, said they need everyone to pitch in whether it be hammering or helping serving lunch.
While anyone wishing to volunteer is welcome to come when they can, there are three time slots: 8 a.m. to noon, 12:30 to 5 p.m. and 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Sign-ups for volunteers help with planning meals.
The project also in need of tool donations especially wheelbarrows, shovels and drill drivers. Renfro said each item is cataloged and returned.
Phase two includes climbing structures, swings, playhouses and a merry-go-round. Workers with every skill level are needed. Tot land was completed last summer.

Early deadline for Nov. 30 Bowie News

The Bowie News will have an early deadline for its Nov. 30 edition due to the Thanksgiving holiday.
All news and advertising must be turned in by 5 p.m. Nov. 26 to insure inclusion. The Bowie News office will be closed Nov. 28-29.
The Bowie News staff wishes everyone a wonderful holiday with friends and family.

Medical needs community meeting on Nov. 19

The second community meeting on needs for an emergency room or hospital in Bowie is scheduled for 6 p.m. on Nov. 19 at the Bowie Community Center.
This is the second meeting to discuss these needs following the closure of the Faith Community Health Center emergency room on Oct. 6, just shy of a year of operation. More than 200 people attended that first meeting, where discussion centered on the creation of a taxing district to support any sort of medical facility.
Citizens in the Bowie area are encouraged to attend and take part in these discussions.
