HIGH SCHOOL VOLLEYBALL: Nocona suffers loss to Holliday on road
The Nocona High School volleyball team suffered a five-set loss at Holliday on Friday in the Lady Indians’ District 3A-9 opener.
Holliday took care of Nocona by scores of 25-22, 26-28, 25-18, 25-22, 15-9, and the Lady Indians dropped to 13-11, 0-1 on the season.
“We missed seven serves and had six net calls against us,” Nocona head coach Tiffany Clay said. “When playing a good team like Holliday, we cannot make those mental errors.”
Nocona was uncharacteristically out of sync on defense, and Clay said Holliday “outplayed” her squad. The coach was happy to see the girls extend the Lady Eagles to five sets.
Payton Ferguson had a team-best 14 kills plus one solo ace block. Sherese Price added 12 kills and Jamie Carpenter seven.
Chloey Hamilton and Carpenter combined for 34 assists. Libero Magye Fenoglio was the lone Lady Indian in double digits for digs with 14, while Ali Walker had seven digs.

The Forestburg volleyball team swept in-county rival Gold-Burg, but the set scores were indicative of a competitive District 2A-10 match.
The Lady Horns won by scores of 25-20, 25-22, 25-16.
Kaylee Choate finished with 10 assists for Forestburg. Hope Phipps served up a team best five aces while Cheyenne Banks and Choate had three apiece. Alexia Britain added four digs and two ace serves.
For Gold-Burg, Hannah Franklin played a strong all-around game with 12 digs, seven kills and two ace serves. She also had a solo ace block.
Haley Davis chipped in with 10 digs and two ace serves. Christina Arevalo and Megan Metz contributed nine and seven digs, respectively.
