Commissioners debate changing part-time salary for one staff

Montague County Commissioners approved a $3 pay increase for its part-time secretary during Monday’s session, along with calling the joint May 7 constitutional amendment/Nocona City Council election.
Precinct One Commissioner Roy Darden asked to place the commissioner’s court secretary pay increase on the agenda, explaining he believes it was “overlooked” when the court approved an increase for part-time drivers in the precincts. The present pay for Debbie Boaz, the commissioner’s secretary is $17 an hour and he asked to move it to $20.
Commissioner Mark Murphey seconded the motion stating he did not realize it was left out. Commissioner Bob Langford said his view on not making any salary changes other than during the budget process has not changed and emphasized it has nothing to do with the specific staffer.

Judges named to preside over DA Hall cases

Judges have been named for the two cases involving 97th District Attorney Casey Hall, including the indictment for theft and a petition for removal as DA.
On July 11, Judge David L. Evans, presiding judge for the Eighth Administration Region of Texas, assigned E. Lee Gabriel to handle the indictment case against Hall. The judge then named Bruce McFarling for the removal petition case.
The two-term DA Hall was indicted by the Montague County Grand Jury July 15 on a charge of theft of property $2,500 to $30,000, a state jail felony. The allegations stem from reported misappropriation of state grant funds.
