HIGH SCHOOL POWERLIFTING: Bowie begins season Saturday
The Bowie High School powerlifting team will begin the 2015 competition schedule on Jan. 10 at the Keller Timber Creek Invitational in Keller.
The powerlifting team is co-ed, with both boys and girls.
The following week on Jan. 17, Bowie will compete at the Chico Invitational.
There also will be regular-season meets on Jan. 31 at Jacksboro and Feb. 7 at Nocona.
The boys’ 3A Region 6 powerlifting meet is set for March 6 at Chico and the girls’ 3A-6 meet on March 7 in Whitesboro.
The girls’ state meet is set for March 20-21 at Corpus Christi, and the boys will follow with the 3A state meet on March 28 in Abilene.
Quentin Berend and Monte Sewell serve as Bowie’s powerlifting coaches.
Nocona’s new powerlifting coach is Brandon Owen, who also serves as the Indians offensive coordinator during football season.
Owen took the reins from Danny Brittain.
Nocona will begin its powerlifting schedule at the Chico Invitational.
The Indians will also compete at the Perrin-Whitt Invitational on Jan. 24.
Both Bowie and Nocona are in the same district for the sport of powerlifting.

Richey repeats at IFYR

Sunset native Cason Richey (right) and his team roping partner Beldon Cox from Weatherford repeated as the International Finals Youth Rodeo champions last weekend at Shawnee, OK. Richey and Cox won the previous year and were able to complete the repeat by catching three steers in a combined time of 16.6 seconds. Richey is expected to compete attend Texas Tech University this fall and compete on the rodeo team.

World gets ready for 2024 Summer Olympics

The 2024 Summer Olympics is just a few weeks away taking place in Paris. The opening ceremonies will be July 26 and are planned to be unique as they take place along the Seine River that flows through Paris. Thomas Bach prepared this op-ed to welcome the world to Paris.

The Opening Ceremony of the Olympic Games Paris 2024 is only days away. The excitement gripping this nation is palpable.
As this unique festival of sport draws closer, we all are feeling that France and the French people are ready to welcome the world’s best athletes with the hospitality and passion for sport for which they are famous all around the world.
Already millions of people have greeted the Olympic flame on its journey around France with a huge wave of enthusiasm. All of us are looking forward to an unforgettable celebration of Olympic sport and French culture in the coming weeks.
