Commissioner’s may have public hearing on replacing veteran’s wall

Published

on

Montague County Commissioners will meet at 9 a.m. on Oct. 13.
Commissioners will consider setting a public hearing to discuss the design and rebuilding of the County Veteran’s Memorial Monument Wall. Several sections of the wall fell and were destroyed in a wind storm last year.
The court has been talking with various companies about replacing the panels along with strengthening the panels with steel roads into the concrete. The insurance company has also questioned if it has liability since it was a wind event.
County Judge Kevin Benton said it appears an agreement has finally been reached on the insurance payment, and last month the court approved setting about $400,000 aside from cash reserves to replace the monument. Monument company officials have said they would not remove a panel to place rods and attempt to put it back due to the liability.
There is a Precinct Two emergency budget amendment to paving for $125,000.
An agreement with U.S. Bank will be examined.
The court will cast its votes for nominees for the Montague County Tax Appraisal District Board of Directors.
A resolution for the indigent defense grant program for 2026 will be discussed.
Precinct two requests to clear a fence line on the Josh Swint property on West RC Road.
