HIGH SCHOOL SOFTBALL: Bowie handles Nocona

The Bowie High School softball team provided plenty of offense last week, and that’s why the Lady Rabbits have been winning.
Bowie defeated Nocona 13-3 on the road Friday evening as the second half of the District 3A-9 schedule began.
“We were able to score a lot of runs (tonight),” Bowie head coach Brant Farris said. “We’ve been able to put together good back-to-back games on offense. I think we’ve turned the corner. But, the big test is Tuesday.”
Bowie (13-11, 6-2) took on Boyd for the second time this season on Tuesday evening, in a game with playoff postitioning on the line.
Nocona played Holliday at home, with a record of 4-12, 1-7.
Nocona can say something Holliday can’t last week as the Lady Indians made the Lady Rabbits play the full game.
“We’re playing teams longer than we’ve ever had before,” Nocona head coach Jon Shaw said. “We are making strides and things are going in the right direction.”
Shaw said Bowie is a tough team because of its slap-hitting ability and the Lady Rabbit defense is as solid as any other team, especially in the district.
Bowie rolled to 5-0 lead after two innings. Read more, and see the complete box score, in the mid-week Bowie News.

The new press box was by the Southern Bleacher Company out of Graham. Athletic Director Black Crutsinger said they looked at a lot of press boxes and decided they liked the one at Lindsay High School and went with that model. Sean Hutson operated the crane from the Hurd Crane Service that put the press box up for Nocona.
